Similarly to New Zealand, Australias seasons are the reverse of the Northern Hemisphere so Christmas here is in mid-summer and the coldest months are July and August. However Australia spans from the tropics (were winter is very pleasant and summer is hot and humid) to Tasmania which has a more temperate summer and cold winters.

- Sailing amid the 74 islands of the Whitsundays on azure waters is a must-do for the highly strung. This is an aqua playground near the Great Barrier Reef and even if your ship doesn't stop here, admiring the miles of silica beaches fringing the region's tropical islands is still very relaxing. Coupled with the lull of waves on the bow, it's a little slice of heaven.
- Cruising under the Sydney Harbour Bridge at dusk just as the city lights are appearing, amid a festive onboard atmosphere, is a treat. Sydney's landmarks are familiar to many but getting out on the water to see them – and sailing through The Heads – is something different again. One of the other advantages of sailing into/out of Sydney is that you dock at Circular Quay or Darling Harbour, right in the CBD.
- A multicultural seaside town, Broome has a vibrant history and relaxed lifestyle, attracting artists, musicians and outdoor-lovers from all walks of life. Cruising into this town puts the Kimberley region within reach, but even if you don't stray far from town, you might leave a little of your heart in Western Australia.
