Table Mountain is protected within national park covering almost three-quarters of Cape Peninsular. Taking a cable car – or for the energetic, climbing – to the top of Table Mountain is a must-do activity. Cape Peninsular is flanked by the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, with attractive beaches on both sides but warmer waters on the eastern side, in the great sweep of False Bay.

Camps Bay

Colourful, multicultural Bo-Kaap is one of the most visited parts of the city, due partly to the brightly coloured houses in the historic neighbourhood. Of course few people holiday in Cape Town without acknowledging its turbulent past and many make a pilgrimage to Robben Island, prison home to Nelson Mandela for 27 years. Thankfully contemporary Cape Town is brighter, particularly for the palate. Surrounded by fine vineyards and with access to fresh seafood, it's is a culinary treat. Try Long Street for an eclectic range of restaurants and bars.
