There's no reason to miss out on a wonderful cruise holiday just because you don’t have someone to travel with. Single cruising is becoming an increasingly popular way of travelling and a great way to meet new people, see new sites and get out of your comfort zone.
Here are the top 5 cruise lines that cater for single seniors.
Norwegian Cruise Line
Norwegian Cruise Line led the way of single rooms being the first to launch 128 studio staterooms for solo travellers on their Norwegian Epic, so you can avoid single supplements while enjoying your Caribbean or Mediterranean adventure.
The compact rooms come with full size beds, flat-screen TVs and are located together in the ship, connected by shared corridors. They also feature a two-story lounge as a social point to meet other singles. They have also expanded their offerings with single rooms on the Norwegian Breakaway, which sails popular trips to Bermuda and the Bahamas.
Holland America
Holland America offer a Single Partners Program for those who are sailing solo. You’ll never feel alone with their solo travellers parties, mixers and game nights designed to make you feel as comfortable as possible aboard.
Social hosts will welcome single women guests to dinner and provide dancing partners on select cruises over 40 days long, and organise seating plans for singles to mingle at dinner, by request. The cruise line also offers an option for solo guests to room-share in a stateroom with another same-sex single so you only pay the per-person double occupancy rate. If they don’t have anyone for you to share with; you’ll get your own cabin at the same rate! Before you set sail on your Holland America cruise, log onto their Facebook page and connect with other solo travellers on your cruise under the “Roll Call" tab.
Silversea Cruises
Silversea Cruises often have specials for single supplement rooms aboard selected cruise departures. The cruise line cherishes the single community aboard, with welcoming champagne receptions, dance evenings, and even group fitness classes. On select voyages, gentlemen hosts join guests for dancing and dining events. Theme nights keep everyone entertained and looking their best to impress, as well as cooking schools and wine evenings. You even have access to 24 hour room butler service. Not only a place to meet new people but to feel luxurious.
Cunard Line Cruises
Cunard Line Cruises offer traditional cruises with historical ships, sailing the most beautiful seas in the world. Solo travellers are catered for with welcome cocktail parties, the option of sitting with other single cruisers at assigned tables in the dining room and a host of activities to keep you social. Gentleman dance hosts are offered for the ladies wanting a dance party to shimmy the night away. Although single supplements are typically 50 – 75% of the double-occupancy rate depending on the voyage, Cunard often run specials that allow single travellers to join the cruise without paying the supplement.
P&O Cruises
P&O Cruises began introducing single cabins to their fleet in 2013. Cruise Barbados on P&O’s Azura, or the Mediterranean on the Ventura and enjoy their single cabins, complete with oversized single beds and ensuite facilities with no single supplement. Don’t miss the singles coffee mornings; the perfect opportunity to meet other solo travellers and enjoy the abundant facilities onboard; with movie theatres, swimming pools, themed bars, relaxing spa facilities and social areas to meet other singles travelling solo.
