Cruising down the river
In Brazil, consider taking a boat cruise down the Amazon River and its tributaries. These cruises tend to include hiking day trips so you can make the most spotting the exotic wildlife. One of the most remarkable experiences on offer is the opportunity to go swimming with the unique Pink Dolphins along the Amazon River. These beautiful creatures playfully entertain all visitors to the region.
Cruises can range from rustic boats with outboard motors to luxurious cruise liners that treat you to large beds and your own private balcony from which to admire the views outside.
Head for the hills
If you take a short flight from Lima, you can explore the Amazon in the beautiful Tambopata National Reserve. Here you can take a tour to meet the local tribes, harvest coffee and marvel at the untouched jungle wilderness. Keep an eye out for the jaguars or spider monkeys high in the trees.
If you head in from Manaus, you can join a survival tour that takes you deep into the Amazon, teaching you various survival techniques such as how to make a fire on the damp forest floor and showing you what's edible.
