Deep azure seas, towering pines and a colourful colonial past
History aside, Norfolk Island is beautiful. You can hike up Mount Bates through rainforest remnants, dive in crystaline waters, paddle lagoons and it's a magnificent location for star gazing. The 9-hole golf course is a pretty one and there are several annual music festivals, including jazz, opera and country. Accommodation is usually in the range of 3–4 star and many places offer car hire as part of their tariff. Though the island is only 5 kilometres by 8 kilometres, it's handy to have a car.

Happily, a holiday on Norfolk Island can be had year-round due to its pleasantly temperate location. Only a 2–2.5-hour flight from Brisbane or Sydney, respectively and 1.5 hours from Auckland; you can be here in no time! Just remember to bring your passport, even if you're coming from Australia.
