Whistler Blackcomb as a Gay Destination
The 2010 Winter Olympic Games firmly focused attention on the famed Canadian alpine resort of Whistler Blackcomb. The 8,171 acres of skiable terrain are spread across two mountains – Whistler and Blackcomb – which are joined by the 4.4 kilometre Peak 2 Peak Gondola. The combined lift system of three gondolas, 13 quads, five chairs and 15 surface machines can handle a staggering 65,507 skiers an hour. Each year the mountains receive around 430 inches of snow, ensuring the ski season lasts that little bit longer.
However for gay and lesbian alpine adventurers, every February the white slopes turn a shade of rainbow – as WinterPRIDE engulfs the resort.

WinterPRIDE - Whistler Gay Ski Week
First held in 1992, Whistler's WinterPRIDE has snowballed to become one of the world's great gay ski weeks. In 2012, the organisers arranged a ski-based pride parade, where a giant rainbow flag was skied down the slopes to the delight of onlookers – the local Mayor formally opened the festivities. This is a resort that embraces diversity and all are welcomed during the week – from those who are seasoned ski pros through to holiday-makers who just wish to appreciate the beautiful surroundings. Throughout the week, there are a variety of après ski events arranged to ensure fun both on and off the slopes.
