Sagrada Família
Spain's second-largest city has been getting well acquainted with tourism since a boom post 1992 Olympic Games. Millions have come to marvel at local architect Antoni Gaudi's unfinished homage to the city, Sagrada Familia; it casts a distinctive silhouette in the Barcelona skyline, synonymous with the city itself. Paying homage to the sun is also popular on the city's beaches – the best known is at fashionable Barceloneta. If luxury shopping is more likely to turn your head, make your way to Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona's top shopping street. There's no shortage of high-end or hostel accommodation either, budget withstanding. A local tip for making the most of your holiday in Barcelona: take the Funicular de Montjuic and a gondola to the top of Montjuic, a small, wooded mountain overlooking the city.
