Birmingham International Airport (BHX)
Birmingham Airport offers both domestic and international flights from one large terminal building. Only two of the international carriers serving Birmingham fly into Australia and they are Emirates and Air India. The airport is less than a two hour drive from London Heathrow Airport and only 10 kilometres from central Birmingham.
The bustling West Midlands city of Birmingham beckons. Not content to sit in the shadow of its bigger neighbour, London, which is just 190 kilometres away, Birmingham charted a course all its own, becoming England’s second biggest city and a thriving centre of commerce, culture and the arts. Palatial public buildings from Victorian times mix seamlessly with high rise buildings and modern architectural structures to form a lovely cityscape interspersed with decorative gardens, elegant university campuses and unique urban canals.
One only has to get out and walk the streets of Birmingham to see how much there is to offer in the way of history and culture. A look at the city’s Classical style Council House is just one example of its elegant Victorian architecture and a show of the great contribution the city was to make in future affairs at the time of its building in the 1870s. Grand theatres and renowned museums highlight the great contribution to the art scene from music and dance to stage performance and priceless works of art. Equally as exciting and vibrant is the rich ethnic diversity of Birmingham’s people which have made the city a melting pot with excellent foods and dynamic neighbourhoods that are filled with wonderful little cafes and eateries.
