Cabin Classes

Economy

Air China provides direct service to Beijing and Shanghai from Sydney and Melbourne. Economy class is the most economical cabin choice but one with many of the traditional international service products that travellers have come to expect. The economy class product includes comfortable slim line seats with padded, movable headrests, industry standard leg room, a personal TV screen and full hot meal service.

Entertainment

Each seat comes equipped with a 9 inch video screen for on-demand entertainment in both English and Chinese. Programming includes many movies and TV shows as well as music and games.

Food and Beverage

A complimentary hot meal and beverage service is available on medium and long-haul international flights. Hot meal selections include a choice of Asian and western favourites on routes to and from Australia, Europe and North America.

Business Class

 Business Class amenities include wide armchair seats that recline to a lie flat bed for optimum comfort on long flights. The electronically controlled seats are within a shell enclosure for greater privacy and space and can be adjusted to many different positions. Additional service and comfort related conveniences include a TV screen, USB ports and power points, LCD reading light and premium meal and beverage service.

Business Class passengers also enjoy enhanced service on the ground with priority check-in, baggage and boarding as well as lounge access.

Entertainment

Large TV monitors at each seat ensure quality viewing of the hundreds of shows, movies and music available. There are also multiple power sources for continued use of personal electronic devices.

Food and Beverage

Business Class guests are provided with a full menu with Chinese and western dishes and snacks to be enjoyed throughout the flight. The main meal is served on real china and includes soup, salad, a choice of main, seasonal fresh fruit and dessert. A snack is served mid-flight and light meal before arrival.

First Class

First Class offers superior comfort and space and is the perfect place to work or relax. Wide armchairs swivel and the large desk like tables are the ideal setting for those who need to work or carry out business. Should you simply want to relax; the seats can be adjusted to any angle, including a lie-flat position. Guests may also continue to use their personal laptops and tablets throughout the flight thanks to multiple recharge ports at each seat.

Entertainment

Sit back and enjoy the wide selection of entertainment options on personal TV screens. The on-demand programming is available in both English and Chinese and can be played, paused or stopped at the viewer’s leisure.

Food and Beverage

The extensive First Class menu features a sumptuous mix of gourmet dishes and snacks. The five-star dining experience begins with caviar, soup, appetizer and salad each individually served before the main course. Choose from Asian or western style gourmet meals prepared to order. Both a mid-flight snack is served as well as a meal before arrival on long haul flights.

Carry-On

First and Business Class passengers are permitted two pieces of cabin luggage, each weighing up to 8kg (17lbs). The Economy Class allowance is 1 bag per person up to 5kg (11lbs).

Size limitations for carry-on bags are 55cm long x 40cm wide x 20cm high. Any item that exceeds these measurements must be checked in.

All routes except Japan and the Americas:

  • First and Business Class: 2 bags, each weighing up to 32kg (70lbs)
  • Premium Economy: 1 bag weighing up to 32kg (70lbs)
  • Economy: 1 bag weighing up to 23kg (50lbs)

Japan and the Americas (excluding Hawaii)

  • First and Business Class: 2 bags up to 32kg (70lbs) each
  • Economy: 2 bags up to 23kg (50lbs) each

The maximum size of checked baggage is 158cm or 62 inches (length+width+height)

Bulky Items

Sporting equipment that is within the weight and size limitations will be accepted as checked luggage. Other pieces that are outside of these measurements will be charged a flat fee.

Infants are allowed one piece of checked luggage not exceeding 115cm (45 inches) in size.

One small carry-on item is permitted


Restricted or Dangerous Goods

International air regulations restrict the carrying of dangerous goods on any aircraft. These items are not permitted in carry-on luggage or in checked luggage at any time and include but are not limited to explosives, weapons and ammunition, flammable liquids, gasses and solids, corrosives, toxins, radioactive materials and poisons.

Electric wheelchairs are permitted for carriage but must be approved by Air China. Packing of the battery must follow Air China specifications. Appliances, computers and other electrical products must also be approved by Air China.

Check-in

Check-in and unwind before you fly

Passengers should arrive at the airport for check-in at least 2 ½ hours before departure for bag drop off and to receive boarding passes. Travel documentation such as passports and visas will also be checked.

These documents are the responsibility of the passenger and must be up to date and in order before the date of departure. Check-in counters close one hour before departure.

Lounges

First Class style at the Air China lounge

Air China in conjunction with its Star Alliance affiliated airlines features hundreds of comfortable lounges around the world in which to work or relax.

Lounge eligibility is given to First and Business Class passengers as well as Air China Phoenix Miles Platinum and Gold members and Star Alliance Gold members. Air China’s Australia lounge is located in Sydney.

Frequent Flyer

Rise again with Phoenix Miles

Phoenix Miles is the frequent flyer rewards and recognition program where guests can accrue and redeem miles for Air China and Star Alliance flights. There are four status levels each with their own rewards.

The base level allows members to earn points which lead to higher Silver, Gold and Platinum status when the required miles are achieved within a 12 month period. Members can also earn mileage credit through the program’s hotel, car rental and banking partners.

Phoenix Miles Status Levels

Silver

Achieved with 40,000km or 25 qualifying flights. Silver members earn a 25% mileage bonus on eligible flights.

Gold

Achieved with 80,000km or 40 qualifying flights. Gold members earn a 25% mileage bonus on eligible flights.

Platinum

Achieved with 145,000km or 80 qualifying flights. Platinum members earn a 50% mileage bonus on eligible flights.
